Well, I just got the new unit about an hour ago.

Initial impressions are good! The build quality seems much better on this unit than the original unit I had. The keyboard has MUCH less flex, and there are less creaks in the chassis.

Also, the CSR told me it'd be a refurbished unit, and it wouldn't be packaged like a new unit. Despite this, the unit IS new and was in fact packaged as a new unit would be.

Also, Dell decided to give me a gift; free bluetooth! I powered on the unit and there it was, the bluetooth light was on. I re-checked the inventory list and sure enough, it was there. I must have looked over it before.

In the process of moving files, settings and programs now.

Just thought I'd update you guys on the situation.

They decided to give you a new/replacement over a fried network card?

It was the terrible technician that sealed that deal.

Yeah, I'm very pleased with how Dell handled the situation. My CSR went above an beyond what I was expecting.

Lots of Kudos to her and Dell.

I had a similar experience with my outlet E4300. All indications pointed to the infamous bad motherboard problem (BSOD and random rebooting amongst other things), but the CSR told me they would send me another unit instead of replacing the motherboard. I called the second day I had the laptop, and by the third week i hadn't yet received my replacement. I sent them an email expressing my dissatisfaction with the service I was receiving, and a week later i was surprised by a brand new E4300 (with the same specs as the original)! The CSR went above and beyond in resolving things, especially since I paid ~$950 for an outlet laptop and they ended up sending me a new one worth ~$1800. Can't beat that!

At one point I had a Vostro 1400 that I had sent back several times due to the infamous heating issues. I convinced the Dell CSR that I should receive a replacement unit since I was having continuous problems.

He promised to replace my system that was 'as good' or 'better,' but he said it would be a refurbished unit.

Well a week later my laptop showed up on the door. I got a new Vostro 1510 that was 'better' (better proc/gfx/ram). To top it off, it was a NEW system.

People claim to have horrible times with Dell Support, and while I've never dealt with them on the phone - I choose to use Dell Chat - I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

And its for that reason that I'm still using Dell for the last eight years!

My E6400 just suffered some weird motherboard issue where the keyboard is now dead even after replacement...the local dell tech had to order in a new motherboard for a 3rd visit. Maybe if this doesn't work, I'll have another long chat with Dell. Had way too many issues on this one model.
