just call dell and ask them for the price.

before doing that u better have a look at the M6400 service-Manual (can be downloaded in the service area) and check out the description for changing the display to decide whether you can do that or not.

The LED backlit display may not be a direct swap with the CCFL. I don't know how it works exactly, but I recall that on an XPS, the LED and CCFL models aren't the same thickness. The absence of an inverter on the LED display may be problematic too, so I would wait for someone with more knowledge on these displays to confirm that it is a direct swap.

And FYI, the LCD is a FRU (even though it is in the service manual), so changing it may void your warranty.

They are not a direct swap out due to thickness differences.

I have asked the same question some time ago and some of the peoplehere told me that it was not a direct swap as already mentionned.

If you are not on a very strict budget the RGBLED mat (which I have) is not that much more expensive from the CCFL.

You can ask for the edge 2 edge RGB-LED. It comes as a one part replacement (I need a swap on mine and the tech-guy told me, it's very easy for him to change the display because it's pre assambled).
