    Hi all

I have a E5400 running windows 7. The problem is if i touch the screen or the bevel round it i get what i can only call spotlights at the bottom of the screen and the display darkens, i can still read it but it's definitley darker. Having read around the net i am thinking it's either the screen on its way out or maybe the inverter?

Anyone else had experience of this or can help in anyway?

    Many thanks

    :)

Take a picture of the problem? If the display is darkening, it maybe a backlight or inverter issue, but what are these "spotlights"?

    Hi Midmale ,

The issue might be with the cable I Agree. To isolate the issue let’s check if the same happens in safe mode (restart the computer and hit F8 on dell logo and select safe mode). If the same happens in safe mode let’s try running diagnostics on the computer (hold down the Fn + Power button simultaneously) and the LCD BIST starts ,check if the same issue occurs. If the test fails that means the issue should be either with the LCD cable or the LCD itself. Kindly post back with the outcome.
