Really killing my battery life, in HWmonitor I can see the temps go crazy. Would it be better to drop down to a previous BIOS update (I'm using A08 since 09 gave me problems on Vista).

I realize it's a beta, but I'm just curious on what may be causing these fluctuating temps like literally from 51C to 57 and jumping back for the Core #0.

Could be background processes - if you just installed, it could have something to do with creating restore points and general tasks that occur the first time you do something (you'll notice the C:\Users folder balloons in the first week, then stays much more steady). Looking at Task Manager, my Win7 is using single-digit CPU, so it's not heating up much, but it is higher CPU usage than XP is for me.

I doubt BIOS would change too much - I'd recommend taking a look at Flipfire's Undervolting Guide instead. Undervolting will lower your temperatures by 10C or so at load, and a corresponding lesser amount at idle, so even if Win7 uses more CPU than Vista, the temps will be lower and the fan won't run as much. It's really quite amazing what a difference it can make - I can run my Inspiron 1520 with the fans completely off if I keep the CPU on the lowest multiplier, and most of the time it stays in the 50's Celsius. Just make sure you go down to near the end of the first post and get the Vista x64 driver you'll need for RightMarkCPUClock Utility to run.

Maybe it's indexing stuff and whatever. But on battery power?

    Hmmm
