is the quadro fx 3700 really a gtx280m?

it appears to be apart from a few minor things but basically were talking 280m power here ?

 

The only real difference between GeForce gaming graphics cards and Quadro workstation graphics cards is drivers. You can make one act pretty much exactly like the other if you install the opposite drivers for it. I couldn't tell you exactly which models correspond to which from the opposite series, though.

 

yeh iv been swapping quadro drivers for years on the latitudes but i didnt think the quadro fx3700 was that new and powerfull , defo tempting me now

 

until the 280 came out the fx3700 was the most powerful single card for notebooks. its more powerful than the 9800, but less powerful than the 280 IIRC

 

The GTX 280M is an overclocked and lower process (55nm) consumer version of the FX 3700M.

 

Not really, you can make the Quadros act like GeForces but not the other way around.

 

yea, the software modding geforce to quadro hasnt worked for a few generations now

 

So, if playing games etc, would it be better to install the other driver?
If so, what is the correct driver for the FX2700m? (Correct as in the GTX version...)

 

Any mobile Geforce for your OS will do (they are all the same. 1 driver to rule them for the Geforce, and the same for Quadro).
