I am contemplating on buying the latest Dell Latitude laptop. The Dell Latitude 7490 has received an excellent rating on Notebookcheck, but its price is just too steep for me with the latest 8th generation ULV processor from Intel.

I saw some good deals on 7490 on the Dell outlet and was wondering if it is worth buying a refurbished version. I've never bought a refurb before so would like to know if it is worth taking the risk.

Considering you get the same 1 year warranty and same 30 day return window, why wouldn't you give it a shot? I've purchased 30+ refurbished laptops over the last couple of years and only a couple of them had any type of physical blemish and none of them actually had a real hardware issue from the get go.

The coupons and ebates cashback make it a no brainer to me.

Sounds good to me! I'm a bit worried about the physical blemishes that's all. Also not entirely sure if the refurbs would be free of coil whine, which has been an issue on some of the older Latitude models.

In my experience the laptops usually look great and perform great. I haven't had a disproportionate number of systems with coil whine or anything like that. Most of Dell returns are probably people who had buyers remorse/just wanted to try out the system. With the 30 day return policy for a full refund (dell even pays shipping), you don't have a lot to lose.

Unless it's sold as "Scratch & Dent" it should look like new. I've bought a couple of "Scratch & Dent" notebooks over the years and, in both cases, I had to look hard to find any blemishes. I highly recommend shopping at Dell Outlet. Check for any coupons as this can increase the saving.

I bought a refurb 7490 last week and it looks as good as new cosmetically. Not a blemish anywhere. My "end" key is much louder than every other key. I did have coil whine and a SSD that was down to 98% life remaining. Got the motherboard, fan, and SSD replaced. Coil whine still present but not nearly as bad. If you pull the trigger definitely spend the extra $40 for the Pro Support add-on to the 3 year warranty. It is worth it. You run the risk of having the same problems crop up when buying new.
