I'm trying to figure out how to change the timeout on the backlit keyboard on my mom's E6400. I bought it for her a few months ago and did a clean install of Windows 7 because I installed a new SSD at the same time.

On the Dell Support site, under Drivers & Downloads for the E6400, under the category of Control Point, it only has various downloads for Connections Manager and Security Manager. But the basic System Manager isn't available to download???

Any ideas on how I can get the System Manager program or tweak the settings for the keyboard some other way???

    Thanks!

You can usually set the backlight timeout directly in the BIOS as well.

M6700 allows you to change the keyboard brightness from the BIOS but not the backlight timeout. Wouldn't be surprised if other systems are similar.

DFEP includes a tool to manage the keyboard backlight.
