Is anyone NOT experiencing some touchpad problems on E6400 or E6500?

I had an E6400 with touchpad problems. Now I have an E6500 and experience some annoying touchpad issues.

Everyone I've talked to that owns an E-series latitude is experiencing some glitchy touchpad issues.

Is there a definitive fix for this yet?

I have no problems. Although I liked the touchpad on my old Fujitsu S6120 better (it was bigger and had a more rugged surface), I have used this touchpad for hours straight at times with no problems.

i have not had my e6500 for long (4days), I did have trouble when I upgraded to vista, I had to install the drivers twice. After the second install the touch pad has worked great.

The problem I experienced on the E6400 and this E6500 is when the touchpad becomes slightly unresponsive. All of a sudden it will barely move when I move my finger on it. The strange thing is that hitting the ESC button usually brings it back to life. I don't get it.

I am using XP SP3 with the 7.2.101.216 drivers from Dell.

I've been having the same problem on my dell vostro 1510 which comes with alps touchpad. My keyboard cursor also jumps around. This problem exists on many machines with alps touchpad:

This problem is way too common yet dell doesn't seem to have an answer. Reinstalling OS, switching to different OS or reinstalling drivers doesn't fix the problems which means that its clearly a hardware issue that dell doesn't admit.

By the way, does your touchpad act differently when you are on battery power as opposed to ac power ? I've also read on dell community forums that this is an issue with the ac adapters.

Interesting question and you might be onto something. Last night laying in bed on battery my touchpad was basically unresponsive for probably 45 seconds. I never really noticed on AC power but I usually use a USB mouse at my desk.

I had problems with the touchpad on my E6400 in Vista, and on my E6500 in Windows 7 and XP.

My 4 year old Inspiron E1505 has a fantastic touchpad and I don't know why they redesigned something that worked flawlessly. Never had a single problem with that Inspiron.
