    Was just wondering...

Is it possible to buy M6400 with the CCFL and then replace it with an E2E RGBLED? Both screens will have the same resolution.

    Tnx!

Hmmm, I guess CCFL to normal LED would be possible. But E2E, isn't that a complete different top chassis part - at least the inner part you look at?

I have a Covet and have seen the non Covet version. From what I see, the E2E doesnt have a bezel, the screen is covered with glass and it is using the LED LCD.

So to replace this would presumably require new plastics for the top cover, new LCD, and top glass.

The service manual would likely show if it is possible to replace all of this, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

The biggest issue I can see would be the cost. If the M6400 isn't already bought, then I think I would spend the difference in cost now rather than spend the replacement cost for all of these new components.

That's the point! I planned to go for a ccfl screen and upgrade later. So I asked different people at Dell if it is possible to upgrade. You can do this, but not as an upgrade. You have to buy the new screen and pay for the installation! That is very expensive. The E2E display is 499$ more than the CCFL screen when you buy it during you order. If you want to get it as a replacement/upgrade part you have to pay 1000$ !!! That's why I directly ordered it.

Another idea is to only upgrade to a RGB-LED without E2E. Then you don't need a new bezel, just the screen. Nevertheless it is expensive to buy a single screen... the best is you order the display you want directly.

Tnx for the replies! I will try to get the RGBLED E2E now, yet the problem stays always the cost...
