Anybody in here that can tell me how I update the intel matrix drivers to my E6500?
When I download the files unzip I dont find a exe file in that folder.
    Just alot of files?

    A "how-to" would be aprisiated.

    Im running Vista 64bit.

There's no need to update those. If you're trying to install XP you'll need those drivers and manually install the (through device manager) to get XP to run in AHCI mode. In Vista they are already loaded

Vista uses its native AHCI driver (msahci.sys), which you cannot update. Any updates to it will be via Windows Updates.

You can update the Intel MSM utility though....

Indeed...newer versions are available on the Intel site. Version 8.6 seems to give issues for some people though.

I've been running 8.6 under Vista x64 for a couple of weeks with no problems as far as I can tell.

8.5 was good for me with XP SP3, but 8.6 bluescreened twice so I went back to 8.5.

I had problems with eSATA under the 8.6 drivers in Windows XP. After doing the "Safe Remove Hardware" procedure the eSATA would get detected immediately again thus making it impossible to remove the eSATA drive properly. And since eSATA drives generally have the write back cache enabled (as opposed to USB memory sticks), data loss will occur if you unplug it without using the Safe Remove Hardware procedure. I got really nasty error messages in the event log when I removed the eSATA drive anyway.
