Intel core 2 duo T vs. core 2 duo SU?

    Which one is the latest and fastest between intel core 2 duo T series and core 2 duo SU series processors? Dell's inspiron 14z comes with intel core 2 duo SU processor options, is it better than intel core 2 duo T6600 processor in terms of speed and performance?

    Off the top of my head, I'd guess the SU is a low-voltage version, meaning longer battery life, but less performance. They usually appear in 'thin and light' notebooks.

    T6600 is a low end processor. the SU is ultra low voltage, which means better battery life. what are the models of the SU processors being offered?

    For example, the SU9400 (the middle of the SU range) runs at a maximum of 1.4GHz but has a maximum power of 10W. This means that there's less heat to be disposed of so the cooling system can be smaller compared with the T series design maximum power of 35W. The SU9400 is approximately 2/3rd of the speed of the T6600. The SU series CPUs are also soldered onto the motherboard which avoids the thickness of the socket for the CPU.

    2/3rds of the power at 1/3rd of the wattage. Sounds pretty good to me?

    The SU parts are going to be more expensive, too. But the issue here is that Intel's figures refer to the maximum heat output of the processors. At idle, which is where you'll be most of the time, it won't make much of a difference.

    Provided that the reduced CPU power is enough for your needs. The slower CPU should be fine for email / normal office applications / web browsing.

    On idle power not much difference compared with the P series CPUs, more of a difference with the T series. Under load it may mean that the SU9400 spends 50% more time to complete a task than the T6600. However, that could be 1.5 hours (an example task) x 10W (= 15Whr) compared with 1 hour x 30W (=30WHr) so much less power consumption when it is under load.
