ugh. Okay, this is probably the 7th time I've tried to do this, so maybe you all could help out?

I periodically check Dell's site for updated video drivers but they are always sooo old. (Dell's driver-Version 7. something, Intel's-Version 11.something) Intel's site is much more up to date. Anyway, I'll download the Intel drivers and attempt to run the installer. It'll extract all the files but then close and show a message stating that the driver isn't "validated" to run on this computer and that I must get driver updates from my pc maker.

Why are others able to install the drivers, even on other Dell systems? Is it a business notebook thing due to the need for stable system images?

    Thanks,
    Ricky :)

Do you get this during the installation? Or immediatly after trying to launch the file? I ask this to figure out whether it is a check builtin the driver's setup wizard or to see whether this is a Windows issue.

When it says it is not "validated", does it give you an option to continue? Dedicated gpu driver updaters face a similar/same WHQL prompt but continue as the driver is community verified. BTW, are you running in safe mode?

It usally works to install Intel driver it you remove a couple of keys in the registry.

Look up the following keys and remove them:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\InfPath
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001\InfPath

I get this during the installation process, the InstallShield Wizard will start, extract files, close, then the message will appear.

Nope, it's not the Windows Logo validation warning, it looks like this:

I'm not in safe mode while installing the driver, perhaps I should do that

I originally got that message too, however when I reinstalled XP from scratch I didn't install any Dell video drivers, then I was able to install the Intel video drivers without warning.

So this means that he probably needs to uninstall the current drivers to be able to install the new drivers.

This is correct, you don't have to change anything in the registry, just uninstall the current video driver, reboot and install the intel driver from their site.
