Here in Sweden it looks like we have to wait for 1 month for 2x4 gb ram? How is it in your country?

I also decided to upgrade the hd to a SSD inte X-25 since it got so much positive remarks on this forum.

Those 4GB RAM sticks are still expensive.

I would put the SSD higher up the shopping list. I've been very happy with my Samsung PB-22J which you might want to consider as an alternative to the X-25. I particularly like the low power consumption. For other options look at the test results at Tom's Hardware. The new Crucial M225 may be a good compromise between performance, power consumption and price.

    Hi John.

Thanks for the advice on Samsung. That netstore did not sell samsung ssd.s.
They had kingstons and crossairs and some other brand but no samsungs.

Do you recomend a clean install or should I try to mirror the old disk to the new one?

Unless you want a clean installation then it is much easier to clone your existing HDD unless the SSD is smaller (although Casper can handle a size reduction provided the space needed by the files is not more than the disk size). I did an in-between approach by cloning the 160GB HDD that came with my E6400 (but had been cloned onto a bigger HDD on day two) and then selectively reinstalling programs and copying files over.

With Windows 7 about to arrive, you may want to consider installing it.

Already running W7 ultimate. But according to some of the posts W7 should function even better with a SSD.

    Hi!
I am using a E6400 with a Supertalent Ultradrive SX 128 GB SSD and 8 GB Ram.
I am located in Germany, but I bought the Ram in Great Britain because it was a bit cheaper there.
(My Operation System is Windows 7 Professional.)

I can admit that the first upgrade should be a SSD, it is fantastic, I also have one in my Core i7 stationary Computer. SSDs with the indilinx controller (Supertalent Ultradrive, OCZ Vertex,...) are good-value for money.
The 8 GB memory are indeed quite expensive. But since it isn't ddr3 it is affordable.

By the way: I also use the docking station for my E6400 and the "new" Bios T11 and do not have fan-problems anymore.

Will 4gb DDR2 so-dimm modules become cheap ever? Considering DDR3 is becoming mainstream and ddr2 prices are now increasing I doubt it.

The Shop where I bought the ram was "nvsecret" (shop: laptopmonkey uk http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140346537772&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT ).
The prices in Europe are higher than elsewhere due to VAT...

BTW: if You buy a SSD You can choose a small size and add a hdd to You media-bay instead of the DVD drive. I have got a media bay from newmodeus (with 320GB Samsung HDD), but at ebay You can get it for 20 Dollar incl. shipping from China.
    Greetings to Sweden
    Jens

Jens! Please give more information about that HDD to media bay. I have a E6500 can it be used in that system?
