IE8 on M6400...

    ....don't do it.

    I have a top of the line M6400 (quad core, 16Gb of RAM, 1/2 terrabyte of raid array and so on) and it is *very* stable running Vista x64. At least until IE8 was installed.

    Problems encountered - refusing to shut down / reboot, hanging on restoring from hibernate, IE hangs on a regular basis, and took much longer to start up.

    At first I wondered if it was some other update that I had installed, so I restored a previous image to the laptop and installed all updates apart from IE8 - and it is now back to its original speed and stability.
