I installed I8kfanGUI then played around with it for a little bit, then decided I didn't like it so I put it back on the "show temperatures no fan control" mode, shut it down, uninstalled it, etc. and I downloaded SpeedFan just to see if the temperatures were okay. SpeedFan said Cores 1 and 2 were very hot (60 C). Is it me or does it seem like the BIOS isn't doing it's job? I'm not very computer smart, so I'm not sure if it's all in my head. Is it normal for Cores to get hot?

I have a Vostro 1400 if it helps at all, running Windows XP SP3.

EDIT: Sorry if I posted in the wrong forum.

You can just go to the control panel in windows and uninstall it. Once uninstalled the program no longer works.
I am not sure how to do that if your running linux.

Most laptops have the fans come on around 70C, so 60C is fine.

    speedfan is a bad program.
Use hwmonitor, core temp pr cpu rightmark for accurate temperature readings.

Speedfan isn't very good with temps on laptops for some reason. I never could get a good reading with it.

Fn+Z resets the fans to BIOS control and also causes the BIOS to re-evaluate fan speed based on temperatures. 60 C is not all that hot for a mobile CPU as they are rated for 95-100 C. My E5400's fan does not kick on until the CPU cores reach 70 C (unless the hard drive is warm, then it's always on, but that's a different story.)
