    Can anyone advise me which of these is better?

    Obviously the i9 is the better processor but does it work well in the 7740 in terms of cooling etc?

    The cooling system handles the i9 pretty well, especially if the dedicated GPU is idling. It can use both fans at a relatively low speed.
