I just blew my AC Adapter!!

    Lol...just happened...took a fuse with it when it popped. Will call Dell for a new one on monday. Anyone else had this happen to them? For the laptop in my sig ofcourse

    No it didn't...All the lights just went off in the room and i didn't even think about the adapter being the cause of it. I checked the fuses and one was toasted...only later i found i was running on battery. If i'm right there should be a fuse in the adapter protecting the laptop, right?

    It was kinda my own fault though, there was a small pillow that mostly covered the adapter so i think there was just to much heat build-up...just never expected it to actually fry because of that.

    These things suddenly die. Possibly a surge on the system. It shouldn't blow the mains fuse if it overheats. There should be an internal shutdown.

    I always keep an inline surge suppressor between my mains plug and the PSU. The supressor should sacrifice itself and protect the PSU.

    Anyway, ask Dell for a replacement.

    lol, doh! Though I misread the title, I thought you "blew it up". Was hoping for a scandalous account of a power supply exploding or something. :)

    Nah too bad...lol...no explosions this time ;)

    And indeed i'll call Dell for a new one tomorrow. Luckily i still had a universal Kensington adapter around.
