I wanted to be prepared for the future, and think that I had read that my 32 bit MS office and 32 bit Dreamweaver and Quicken would work on the 64 bit machine. Do I understand that I will need a 64bit AV Spyware program? And other programs that I will need to upgrade?

I hope I did not shoot myself in the foot by going 64 bit but they are selling most laptops even at Staples with 64 bit, so I figured I would be OK.

You are defiantly a bit ahead of the curve when it comes to 64-bit. Most consumer models are still running 32-bit. The only time you star seeing 64 is obviously when there is greater then 3.25GB of RAM which as a rule is still somewhat uncommon for "typical" systems.
From a usability standpoint you will definitely need a 64-bit version of an AV package due to how most apps integrate into Windows now a days. Other then that many 32-bit apps run perfectly fine in Vista's 64-bit environment. The real deal is going to be Win 7 which I firmly believe will bring even better compatibility, but that is next quarter's business. :)

Thanks. Yes, I have my eye on seven. I figure if I loved VISTA, I will be IN LOVE with Seven :)
