I bought a used Dell PRecision 7720 on Ebay - Some questions on it and Was it Worth it?

I bought a used dell precision 7720 on ebay for $520. IT came with 64gb ram, i5-7440hq, AMD wx 4130, 2tb Hd, 1 TB samsung NVME. IT did not come with any OS installed though. I have several questions though:

1) Do you guys think this laptop was worth it for the price and specs?

2) Since it didn't come with an OS, but it did have a windows 10 pro stick on the base cover, CAn i just download windows 10 pro from Microsoft or Dell and then install and it'll work fully registered and activated? I've heard that modern OEM laptops have their windows CD keys stored in the bios and that if i install the correct Windows 10 iso, it'll find the cd keys in the bios and auto-activated the windows?

3) Also, The laptop came with the AMD wx4130. Can anyone tell me is the wx4130 on the precision 7720 4gb or 2gb vram? i think there are 2 configurations of it. I read the 7720 owner's manual online where it states this laptop wx4130 gpu comes with 2gb vram normally? How come in my bios it's showing the gpu as only have 64mb ram? This laptop has switchable graphics? why is it defaulting to integrated graphics?

4) Is the wx4130 decent? I read online that is' similar to a gtx 960m, but anyone has first hands experience with it? Can't really find good info on it online.

Thanks all, I'm a noob. Been using windows xp up till last year and haven't bought a new laptop for 12 or 13 years, still using my inspiron 1520, so i haven't been familiar with all the new happenings.

 

1. Yeah that sounds like a good price for those specs.

2. You can download windows 10 and install it, but see your other thread as that question has been answered

3. It's a 2gb card in the 7720. The 64mb of vram is likely the Intel GPU. Use GPU-Z to see the real specs. It's defaulting to the intel GPU to save battery, it will use the dGPU when it needs to.

4. Sadly there isn't a lot of info out there. It seems like it should be close to a 960M, but most people who buy a workstation don't game on it.

 

How can I force the laptop to use the AMD wx4130 GPU At all times and not use the integrated GPU at ALL?

 

Go to BIOS, find graphics settings, and turn switchable graphics off. The Intel GPU will be disabled.

 

1. If you're using it for just gaming, the price is mediocre, but decent overall
2. Windows works without a license, but with one you can "customize" it and activate it. Assuming you know this, but you're not limited to using W10, you can install W8.1,W7, MacOS, or Linux (with effort for all)
3. As others have pointed out, 2GB. 64MB is the iGPU, which is on by default, but their should be a BIOS option to switch it.
4. WX 4130 is the Firepro version of the RX 550 afaik, 960M sounds right. I wouldnt really call it "decent" but it can surely play most modern games if you turn the settings down enough, ~720P med from when I had a RX 550.

 

This is true. In fact I’d take the 960M. Well it’s more that AMDs don’t like me very much

 

$500 Precision 7720 seems like a decent deal...

 

Better than decent. It came with 64GB RAM, 2TB HDD, AND 1TB NVMe SSD?

I'd say that was a great deal. Sure, it has the lower spec i5/AMD CPU/GPU, but if it had an i7/Quadro it would have bidded up to $800.
