    Possibly off topic, but it is related to a Dell Precision (workstation..)

    A message that you don't want to see on your main file server..."TERMINAL DISK FAILURE"...

    :(

    Happily, I just pull the borked disk out and stick in a spare (of the wrong capacity, but hey...) whilst awaiting the arrival of a replacement...and all is well!

    :)

    It does nark me that I had to pay nearly as much for a new 160Gb disk as I would have done for a 750Gb disk...but the array is built of 160Gb disks...

    Bed time..I'm wittering...

    You could have put in a larger disk and it would have only used 160GB of it. Makes upgrading the RAID to a larger one in the future easier.

    Yes, I did consider that, but then it would rely on the other smaller disks failing first. I decided to wait till I need the space, then I will buy the biggest drives available at the time - it'll end up being cheaper than buying a huge disk now and then 2 others when I need the space.
