How to manually eject a CD from a slot-loading drive on Vostro 1510

Hi

My technologically challenged uncle unwittingly inserted a data cd in a new Vostro 1510's slot-loading dvd combo drive. The computer would not boot up but it took the cd which means the drive is alive. Is there a way of ejecting a cd out of these drives. I asked him to look for a pin-hole for manually ejecting the cd (as in my old G3 iMac) but he reported back that there is no such hole. There has to be a way of manually removing a cd from these drives if the computer refuses to boot up. Please help!

Pop the dvd drive out and shove it on another notebook

Also see if theres a paperclip hole else where in the drive

 

Have you tried the boot menu when booting to bypass boot order and eject once you're in Windows?

 

Windows is not loading, it is a new machine. Don't ask me why the CD was inserted in a duff machine, it was and more strange things happen in life! The drive can be removed by removing back-cover which could invalidated the warranty. Remember this is a DoD (dead on arrival) machine and needs to be sent back but that cd has to be taken out before that.

Talk to dell support about your situation, they might be able to do something for you.

You should be able to pop the whole drive out without voiding the warranty.

 

Can you load up the BIOS (F2) then press the eject button from there?

Go into BIOS setup, and try holding the eject button down for several seconds. It worked for me on a Vistro 1710 with the same drive.
