And if you don't have access to a 3D printer, there are a number of service bureaus that will print a file you submit and mail it to you (quickparts, shapeways, etc.).

Funny, I've always felt just the opposite. But then I'm no pointing stick user or fan anyway. Right form the start its been just an annoyance to me. As well as a continuing source of typing errors and cursor wonder -- the worst part of an otherwise fine keyboard. I wish there was a way for us non users to cap it or shut it off.

Isn't there an option in the Dell touchpad settings to turn it off?

There very well may be an app. somewhere but not that I could find. Anyway, at this point I've learned to pretty much type around it. Though not nearly as fluidly as with a mechanical keyboard.

The quest for the perfect laptop keyboard remains unfulfilled; but perhaps next time, they'll at least include a lock/disable function right up front, for those that don't use/need a pointer, like me.

Yes, you can disable the trackpoint in the touchpad setting utility.

Indeed, I am currently looking as to whether I can find someone in Montreal to make at least one for me.

Check out shapeways or quickparts. Those are two large vendors that do 3D prints as a service. You can send them a file to quote as they will print it and send it to you.
