    Hi everybody,

I made a previous fan about the issue I had with Dell's managment of the fan settings. In an attempt to combat this, I thought I'd try installing a previous BIOS to see if it fixes the problem (perhaps there was an alternative fan managment setup).

However, when I try to install an older BIOS, I get the message "The current BIOS is the same version (or newer) than the version you are trying to flash, so the BIOS will not be changed".

Is there any way to force it to flash an older BIOS edition. Thanks for your help.

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I'd like to know if other users have this same fan problem with their Vostro 1310s? I returned a laptop not too long ago b/c the fan was always on and annoying, and I'd hate to repeat that again if I were to buy a Vostro.

I'm looking to get a new laptop soon and the Vostro 1320 is high on my list at the moment. And since it's just a refresh of the 1310, I assume it's using much of the same parts/design, so I was wondering if it has any quirks that I might find troublesome.

Overall it's a great laptop. I like the build quality, and it's pretty light too (a tad bit thick, but still more than portable).

There isn't really a 'problem' with the fan, it's just annoying how dell has set up the fan management. When you start up the computer, the fan is pretty much off until it reaches a certain temperature (for me it's 45 degrees celsius). Then, the fan will kick in on medium-high, cool it to 40 degrees and then turn off. A few minutes later, it will heat up again, the fan will kick in, etc.

It's not really that noisy, but it's just a bit annoying. I'd rather they have a setting where the fan is on all the time on a low settings. Perhaps they'll fix this in a future BIOS update. Overally, good laptop though - and you can't beat the value that you get for what you pay

To be sure, this is about the 1320?

I assume it's still about the 1310 since that's what the OP has.

I run it at 90 degrees from my Desktop. The fans in the Desktop are so load that I can't hear the Laptop at all...
