How do you disassemble the laptop to clean the fan? I've never cleaned it before. The laptop is a little more than 2 years old.

Usually, just spraying it with a can of compressed air from the outside will do fine and is much simpler.

But if you do want to, it looks like you wouldnt have to remove the main screws that hold in the bottom cover of the chassis. As it looks like there is a bay door for the fan. Just take that off and spray the fan. If you want to spray the internal fans, then you have to take off the bottom chassis. I attached a pic of the screws that would need to be removed. The red circled ones are for the fan in the bay door with visible vents. The yellow circles are for if you would like to take off the chassis and clean it all out. EDIT:The pic wont attach, sorry. but look at billw1678's post.

Go to the Dell download site and get the Service Manual (it used to be called Removal and Replacing Parts). This gives detailed instructions on disassembly / reassembly.

You can just take off the keyboard.(easy 3 little screws under the top trim peice). With the keyboard off you can use the can air to clean the cpu fan.Thats what i done to my D820 and it run's cool.My CPU is the C2D T7400 and most times it run's at about 42*.Under heavy load i have only seen it go up to about 57 or 58*.Never seen it go into the 60's.
