My son-in-law's m4400 looks like the motherboard has crapped out. His hard drive died and when I went to replace it, now the boot order doesn't show an internal hard drive or USB options. He had recently used an external usb hard drive to back up the laptop.

I have the option of picking up a working used e6400 and was wondering how similar the hardware is to make the restore as trouble free as possible. If they are not that similar then I'll start looking for a m4400 board.

The M4400 typically has a better GPU, but other than that it's mainly just form factor/chassis differences. They are pretty similar.
