    I'm considering buying a Dell e6400 or Dell e6500. I'd prefer the I'd prefer a 15.4' screen. However, if I get that I feel like I probably should get a higher res than the basic 1280 x 800. Ideally I want 1440 x 900.

The problem is Dell only seems to offer the higher resolution in a glossy screen on either model (at least in Canada) - "UltraSharp™ Wide WXGA+ (1440x900) LED Display-Brushed Metal Black". I spoke to Dell and they said it's something in b/w an anti-glare screen and a consumer glossy screen, but I'm not sure what to make of that.

I'm wondering if anyone has this type of screen and can tell me what their experience has been? How glossy is it?

I mainly will use my laptop for writing and office work - in coffee shops, offices or the library - so I don't like have a screen that is reflective. I much prefer an anti-glare screen. I've thought about just buying the e6400 with the anti-glare 1280x800 LED screen, but like I say, would prefer to get a bigger screen if possible, so wanted to see how glossy these screens really are.

Thanks!!! Your thoughts are much appreciated.

You can get removable anti-glare films from Photodon. I bought one for my highly reflective HP Brightview Infinity screen. Works. On the plus side it also protects the screen from scratches.

Actually, at least for the e6400 (and I'm pretty sure for the e6500), they don't offer a glossy screen option. I believe that Dell brands their glossy screens as "truelife", and "ultra-sharp" is just a designation for higher res. screens. So in short, you'll get a matte anti-glare screen regardless, so you might as well get the desired higher resolution.

I have a Latitude e6400, the wxga+ led model, and it has a matte finish.

Neither the E6400 nor the E6500 have any glossy display options... I answered you questions in your other thread anyway.

Dell TrueLife = glossy, if it doesn't say that, then it's matte. Another source for anti-glare screens is www.buyviewguard.com

I should have come on here rather than asking Dell! I thought it rather strange myself (as business laptops always seem to anti-glare) and so had asked two different Dell sales staff, who both said it was glossy (and then one went and asked a supposed specialist, who came back with the answer about it being somewhere in the middle). I know they outsource to call centers overseas, but they really need to train their staff better! Haha. Anyway, thank you all for clarifying that.

Most company CSRs suck and are unhelpful unfortunately, at least they somewhat speak English.

The E6500 has a beautiful 1440x900 LED screen. It's not glossy but matte and is the same panel that the Macbook Pro used when it was still matte.

The only glossy screen is the RGB-LED WUXGA Screen. All other are matte. The confusion probably caused by the newer types of matte screens. The matte layer aren't as matte as old matte screens, so you get a bit of both, better colors like a glossy screen, and no reflections. When you look from the sides those matte screens almost look glossy.

They both offer WXGA+ LED screen straigt from their introduction! It's nothing new!
