Not easy finding for a 17.3" laptop.

    Looking for two recommendations,

    1. Sleeve or messenger bag
Has to fit only the laptop and nothing else. Looking for a model that offers drop protection. Prefer handles and shoulder strap.
Neoprene sleeves do not seem to offer much protection.

    2. Briefcase / backpack / large messenger bag
Ideally should fit the sleeve/messenger bag from 1. Drop protection preferred.
If not, just the laptop is fine too--but drop protection becomes necessary.
    Prefer handles + shoulder strap.

    Thanks

There is none. The best you can do is layer it from bumps. Try the Timbuk2 They offer a wide rage of messengers for a laptop of these dimensions.

I have the neoprene sleeve and messenger combined to protect against bump on the metro, but even combined they are not drop proof. The Precision is just too heavy for that. The bag would have to be enormous.

^ There is a decent chance of finding one if enough members read this.

I disagree with you that the size must be enormous to offer drop protection. Think about the box the M6800 comes in--that is stronger than you think and offers significant protection. I once had a new printer fall off the roof of a vehicle at 50 mph--no damage.

Size needs to be less than size of M6800 + 2 inches on each dimension. That is about 18.4" x 12.65" x 3.6"

Drop protection = complete care warranty.

I have a targus backpack. It's been left in the trunk of my car during multiple auto crosses/'spirited' drives without issues. It has left dents in my trunk...

I'm not sure you could break a m6xxx laptop by accident that would be prevented by a slightly more padding.

^ I am using "drop protection" in the sense of protection against damage due to drops and not involving payments to Dell.

"Accidental Damage Service" is available for 3 years at $118 + taxes and seems to be a good addon--thanks for the idea. Not having dropped a laptop for almost 25 years, did not even consider it.

Well it won't hurt to hold out, but I'm telling you it doesn't exist. One reason is that most people would already consider the 6800 to be enormous just on its own. Add anything much beyond a messenger and the heft only grows larger from there.

That's one reason why Mac, even with their much slimmer design, discontinued their 17" notebooks. It is a niche notebook from the start. That's why you won't find as many accessories as you would for the much more prevalent notebooks in smaller dimensions. If i means anything to you, I would be as happy as you should such as device be revealed.
My initial thoughts. Don't leave home without it.

Hello, I know this is an older post but I just found it and wanted to help. I have had my M6800 for about 3 years now and have tried many options for carrying it and finally found the Everki line of tech bags. They are a little pricier than most bags but hey if you have an M6800 then there is no reason to skimp on a quality bag to protect it. I wanted a casual bag, so I found the Beacon Laptop Backpack and I couldn't be happier. It holds my M6800 with room to spare and there is a lot of room for accessories or even clothes for an overnight trip. This backpack like all of theirs has a dedicated felt lined laptop portion and I have never had any damage to mine while traveling. They also have a few briefcase style bags and I picked up one of those too for when I only need to carry my laptop and nothing else. I have even carried my M6800 in my backpack as well as my wife's 15 inch Acer Apire laptop in the other compartment of the backpack with room to spare. I picked mine up from a local electronics store for $ 120 and in the past 2 years have had zero issues with it. Believe me I did a lot of research on this since my Dell is my mobile workstation and I travel a lot. I hope this helps, good luck.

There are a ton of large stylish bags that more than accomodate the M6800 you just have to hunt them down. Check out Everki's website. They have a lot of 17"+ bags.

Everki is great. I have an Everki Titan for almost a year now and I love everything about it

I didn't ee the Titan when I bought mine but it is almost the same size but I think the Titan has more storage space and pockets. Where did you buy yours? I was lucky that they had the Beacon at my local Frys electronics store. I paid about $50 less than the Everki website. I also pocked up the Everki Adavance for when I just carry my laptop charger and a few other things. I love my M6800 but I didn't realize that it would he so difficult to find something decent to carry it in.
