I've had my E4200 for a couple of weeks now and it's really starting to bother me that it's emitting a high-pitched noise when it's not working at 100% CPU activity.
It's coming from beneath the keyboard, a little bit to the left from the center, about where the CPU sits. Could the noise be coming from a capacitator?

Is anyone else having this problem?

Yeah, mine does that as well when it's somewhere between the lowest (800MHz) and highest (1400MHz) settings. I believe it is the CPU, not a cap, and it does it when the CPU is running in a certain power state.

Honestly though, I'm shocked that you can hear it over the fan (which on mine, runs almost constantly).

Have you called Dell support to see what they say and if they will fix it?

I'm only 21 so I can still hear high-pitched sounds quite well. It's easy to spot over the fan noise. This and the loud fan really drags the E4200 down in my opinion...

I called Dell yesterday and the rep I spoke to said that there was no way that they could fix it. I might use one of Sweden's Consumer Rights laws to get a new unit but I want to see if there are those who never have this annoying sound first.
