I can hear almost constantly a high pitch noise coming from the area where the key A and S are. what is it? I doubt that is the HDD since it is more south. Also it's not the fan, I can distinguish the noise made by the fan. I should probably record it with my microphone. has anybody noticed this? is there a way to reduce it? what makes this noise?

Is it a high pitch stuttering sound that kinda has a morse code like pattern?

That could be the dreaded Intel CPU whine. It's a really high pitched sound that has a morse code pattern to it and it's continuous. Does it get worse when you pull out the cord and use the battery? Does it temporarily change or stop when you drag your finger around the trackpad or when you start using more of the CPU power by plugging in USB stuff or loading the processor with work? Those are the telltale signs of the Intel CPU whine.

i think that's it. besides the face that I don't notice changes when I am around the trackpad. I had the same exact noice on my asus with a core duo. so is this known? any remedies?

It's a problem that many people have complained about if you google for "Intel CPU whine" or "Intel processor whine" but it's not that well known.

One of the workarounds to it involves using RMClock and disabling a sleep state but I haven't tried it so I don't know much about it.

Do you know if it can be done at the bios level too?
(RMclock doesnt work at Vista 64bit without messing with the system.)

now it went away, I messed around with "deep sleep" function in rmclock, but now rmclock is not running and the noise isn't there anymore. so I still have to do some troubleshooting.
