Just got a new e6400 delivered (bought off the outlet). Seems I'm not able to get it to connect to my existing network (which has WPA-PSK encryption). I have a Netgear WGR614v4 router. I spoke with tech support who told me that sometimes, some cards just don't support all routers. THANKS!

Any suggestions? I have the latest drivers for the 1397 (I'm running XP, btw) and I've uninstalled ControlPoint Connection Manager.

    Thanks!

Do you have XP SP2 installed? I remember by default XP doesn't support WPA2 until you install one of the service packs. Can't remember if it was SP1 or SP2 that provided WPA2 support.

The pre-installed OS was XP SP3.

I downloaded and installed the XP WPA2 "fix" anyway but it said something about it already being included in the OS...

I can try to flash the firmware on my router to the latest, but if I have three other PCs in the house that work fine with the router it seems ridiculous I'd have to resort to that. Would it be worth called Tech Support see if they'd swap it out with an Intel WiFi NIC?

If you have SP3 you definitely have WPA2 support in the OS. The funny thing is I just tried a google search of "dell 1397 wpa2 psk" and this post is the top search result and nobody else has complained about it. So it looks like the 1397 can support WPA2 fine, but I have no idea why it won't work with your router when your other machines work.

Does it connect to other networks, and other WPA2 networks? If it does, try restarting your router or upgrading the firmware. If it doesn't work with WPA2 at all, I have no idea what the problem is. I have a 1397 AND a intel 5100 in my E6400 (because the dell has a broadcom chip), and both work with my WPA2 protected router (Linksys WRT54G).

Don't have another WPA2 network to try to connect to. I'm thinking it's likely the router that is at fault. I've heard Netgear routers are a bit flaky and I have some fairly old firmware on ours....I just don't want to have to spend time tinkering with it, to be honest.

Otherwise is the 1397 usually a pretty good card? And what do you guys usually use to manage the wireless...Windows utillity or the one from Dell?
Or is it worth replacing with one of the Intel cards?
