I have a Vostro 1310 (circa 2008) that is quite adequate for my needs except the HD is "playing up", even after a chkdsk run and repair, so I want to replace it.

The only HD specification I've found says it is a 2.5" Serial ATA-150, 160 GB, 5400 rpm. I don't know the make or the cache size.

Can I replace it with a 2.5" Momentous XT 7200.1, SATA, 320 GB, 32 MB cache? If I can, will there be any improvement or degradation in performance or is that governed by the motherboard?

Thank you for any help, in advance.

You can use any 2.5", 9.5mm SATA drive. So yes, the 320GB XT will work.
