Im wondering if dell has improved their design and if the opertaion of the trackpoint and touchpad has gotten better on the m4600 then it was with the m4400. Might be forced into having to buy a workstation and i like the ati choice in the dell over the nvidia only on the lenovo w520. Plus the precision has a numpad and slot load optical which are huge for me as well. So if the trackpoint has beed improved it will be an easier choice.

I haven't seen an M4400 to be able to compare the touchpad. The touchpad on the M4600 works okay. I prefer it over the touchpad on the w520.

I would think twice about getting the ATI FirePro, however. Maybe this is specific to my machine, but I'm getting regular BSOD and display driver restarts. The driver is from September 2011 and the vbios is from February 2011. I don't think you could say that Dell is doing a very good job of supporting it.

Also, there is another thread about powerplay, which basically doesn't work. The M4600 with a FirePro is a serious battery hog.

Maybe the nvidia has issues of its own, but I wish I chose it rather than the ATI. My son has a loaded w520 with an nvidia quadro 2000 and it gives much better battery life than my M4600 with a FirePro.

Come to think of it, I would rather have a w520, despite the touchpad.

I have had nothing but bad luck with nvidia cards. I know the thinkpad will be a good choice, but the m4600 is a bit cheaper and comes with a few things the thinkpad doesnt. Plus the ati can run 3 monitors which is a huge bonus for me.

If the trackpoint is anything close to what it is on my m4400 I think Ill just go back to thinkpads.

Anyone else notice any improvements from previous latitudes/precision trackpoints to the current offering?
