I was tightening the screws for the cpu bracket on my Latitude E6400 and did not realize that at one point the screw actually broke apart. It is stuck on that hole of the cpu metal bracket, and it is well stuck to the point that I cannot get it out with other tools that I have in hand. (Too small for the drill I assume, but I don't have a drill.)

I know it is so easy to just replace the motherboard, but I really just can't shell out so much for this laptop.

I want to see if I can replace that metal bracket itself. I am trying to find it on Ebay, so I can see if this metal bracket can be separated from the motherboard. But I do not know which keywords I need to use for the actual search.

I searched all Google all day yesterday for the solution, but I found nothing that was really practical to this situation. I am SURE many of you members here experienced that either with laptops or desktops.

Please let me know how I can go about this. ANY idea will be VERY appreciated... My gpu is running at 95 in a mild load because the heat sink just is not tight enough.

I doubt you can get the screw out without damaging the bracket, and I'm pretty sure you won't be able to find that bracket by itself. Buy a broken motherboard (I'm seeing them for $20 shipped on US eBay) and pull off the bracket (though I don't know how easily it'll come off).

Commander Wolf: Thank you for the reply.

Out of frustration, I removed the whole heatsink (The third one just broke now. wow...) and the keyboard to see how to remove the bracket.

It comes right off! It is taped using a small double sided tape essentially and is NOT soldered into the mobo.

I found cheap broken motherboards on ebay. I will buy one to replace the metal socket.

The solution is found. Thanks all again and I hope this thread gets stuck somewhere in Google for future users.
