    hi

I've heard of a dell latitude x1 , second hand, with
    a "Generation 1 ZIF drive"

Is that what they come with when new too?

Does any 2.5" solid state drive work in there?
or does it need to be a specific voltage?

    is it SATA or IDE?

    Hard Drive: 1.8" 30GB or 60GB @ 4200RPM
No idea about which interface though..

This guy got a picture of the hard drive connector, and it looks like the same as the one that came out of my 3G iPod.

As far as I know, you will not be able to install a 2.5" drive in there.

thanks.. the following part was most relevant.

    it answers my questions.

(i'm guessing of course that he lost the solid state advantage, no motor, no noise. The X1 comes with a solid state hard drive I think. But his post shows that it is a standard hard drive , 1.8", and shows the connector type)

"I was able to upgrade 1.8" Toshiba hard disk in Latitude X1 to a better (cooler and faster) newest 120GB Samsung 1.8" hard disk.

The trick is that instead of micro-ATA connector, newer1.8" hard disks use ZIF connector.

The good news is that you can 1) purchase a fitting 1.8" IDE to ZIF adapter, 2) there is enough space to fit it into the notebook interior together with the hard disk. The only drawback (hardly noticeble) is that
a part of your keyboard aroud letter "P" will be 1mm higher than it should. It is really no problem at all (I am very sensible myself to keyboard issues)."

I know a guy with a refurbished one, he said his drive.
    Toshiba MK6006GAH,HDD1544,8.0MM 60GB 8.0mm 1.8" 4200RPM 2MB Notebook Hard Drive
That is prob a standard one. It is toshiba 1.8" 4200RPM, like the other guy's and standard for the
    X1 is 30GB or 60GB..
(RPM of course certainly implies not solid state)

It looks to me like the X1 does not come with a solid state hard drive.
