Neither the core or any other eGPU Docks are released yet.

Yes, but someone here might have access to pre-released hardware?

BTW here is a link to an article on TechPowerUp that has tested GTX 980 in various PCIe configuration, giving us a hint what kind of performance hit we have to expect with Thunderbolt 3 eGPUs.

Anyone have a 6700 IPS and seen the 7710 FHD that can compare the two? Is the 7710 FHD as good or better than the 6700 IPS? I know the UHD is much better, but how does the 7710 FHD compare to the 6700 IPS screen.

Most my use will be with three external 1920 x 1080 screens at two different locations (one home and one office - same setups). Once in while I use it as a laptop, but these days most my on the go is with a MS Surface Pro 4.

I originally decided on the FHD thinking scaling will be an issue, but after playing with the text size setting on my Surface I do not think that will be an issue and am now second guessing if I should go with the UHD just to have it.

    thanks

    @rinconmike
in my current M6700 I got the IPS rgbled panel.
I'm waiting (just shipped yesterday, I believe I will have it within 10 days) for the 7710 and IGZO.
I will let here my feedback, since I expect IGZO is better. I suppose 7710 FHD is worse than IPS M6700 (from adobe rgb colour perspective, since the FHD is supposed to reach 72% vs 100% of the old IPS) and it is the argument I used to convince Dell to substitute my M6700 with 7710 and IGZO instead of M6800+FHD of their initial proposal. And they did it.

    PS
I have the idea to use my actual DDR3 RAM in the 7710, at least for some months. And this http://www.anandtech.com/show/9483/intel-skylake-review-6700k-6600k-ddr4-ddr3-ipc-6th-generation/7 relieves me further.

If interested here are Intel's datasheets for the skylake mobile which could help with your questions:
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us...mobile-h-processor-lines-datasheet-vol-1.html
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us...mobile-h-processor-lines-datasheet-vol-2.html

section 2.1 of volume 1 talks about system memory. I think Dell should be the final go to for answering those type questions. Example: Consider that a 5510 with a e3-1505m xeon does not support ECC (contrary to Intel's datasheets regarding that cpu). But I think you will be fine using your existing DDR3, can't hurt to try it. *although a DDR4 SO-DIMM has notch in different location and is slightly longer than DDR3, so not sure how they get around that.

    Hello everyone,

I need your help with choosing the right configuration for me.

I'm coming from a desktop (ASRock Z68 Pro3-M, i7-2600k, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD (Samsug 840EVO), WIN7) and looking for a 17'' laptop that will give me a performance boost and be with me for the next few years. I have a decent budget for it.
I'm a professional online poker player, I have many different applications open at once, each with many different windows. I also run some vast databases, 1-2 virtual machines and deep game theory tree simulations. I'll be mostly using the laptop in my study where I want it to be connected to my two monitors (a few year old DELL U2711b and a new DELL UP2715kt 5k, thinking about upgrading the older screen soon) and an external keyboard and mouse (I probably want a dock then? which?). I want to be able to easily connect/disconnect so I can take the computer around the house and I'll be traveling with it sometimes as well.

I wanted to buy a laptop a few months backs but then learned that the Skylake laptops are around the corner so I decided to wait. Then I decided to wait for TB and a few reviews and comparisons to the P70 and the G3. 7710 with TB is here, only one review I could find (and only one of the P70, no G3 and no comparisons, why is this do you guys think? how long till there will be more through reviews?) but I think I'm going to stop waiting and just go with the 7710 (smart? I could continue waiting..).

Would appreciate if you guys can help me customize ot.

Processor & RAM: I've been reading some about ECC/XEON. If we expect ECC memory to save me even 2 crashes a year I think I want to go with it. FWIW, I really don't remember when my desktop last crashed. I know I want 32GB.

Storage: I need a very fast SSD (think I'll go with 512GB here, I don't need more space than that),

    OS: Win10

Display/GFX: I don't game (besides poker) and don't do any video/graphic editing. I do want to be able support two 4k/5k monitors and would prefer the option to maybe even add a 3rd in the future.

I also want some decent security features for the computer.

Sorry for the long post, I hope this thread is an ok place for it.

    Thanks in advance!

@gannjunior - It's up to the manufacturer to decide with which RAM they would design the machine. Once designed, you can't put whatever you want! I advise you against, or you may fry something! Use only DDR4 modules (or whatever type the system comes with, which in this case is DDR4).

Has anyone tried aftermarket RAM in their 7710?. Will the Crucial 16GB sticks that the crucial website adviser recommends work?

    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/precision-7710/CT8033207

    Edit

The Crucial is around $209 before tax. Dell quoted me $179 before tax for 16GB x 2. Item number is A8650534

@gannjunior , I suspect if DDR3 is not supported in the laptop then the notch key of your DDR3 SODIMM won't align with the DDR4 notch key of the laptop mobo, Reading the skylake data sheet again I think DDR3L is supported which can run at 1.35 or 1.5 volts. Straight DDR3 only runs at 1.5 which I think is too high. Check with dell.
