Great, not again. It seems my GPU is going way too hot and causing frame skipping

during gaming...with TF2. I already had to replace the motherboard + fan once already through Dell already. What should I do, this is rather annoying having to replace nearly the entire laptop every 6 months or so. It's ridiculous. Specs in my signature. Seriously, I can't do this anymore. What should I do guys?

I know this is Nvidia's problem for making a faulty GPU...it just seems like as the consumer I got the bad end of the deal.

Any ideas on what I should do? I can't have a laptop that has to go under maintenance every 6 months.

I'm not one for "gaming" the system, but with problems this severe...they need to do something. Also I'm wondering are all 84/86 style GPUs affected by this problem? Including workstation laptops? Because I have to say, I can't recommend any laptop with an 8-series Nvidia chip anymore.

103C??? That effectively way too hot, on the other end the high temperature has nothing to do with the problem with the 8xxx.... Are your vents clean? If not, clean them and get a cooler while you're at it, it can't hurt.

    This is normal??

Vents are clean. And the same exact thing happened before and then fried my GPU. Well I didn't use a temperature program then, but now I have....so yeah...

Last time when the GPU burned out, all I got were green lines everywhere on 800*600. And that's when I plugged it into a monitor, I couldn't even get the laptop screen to display anything (despite being on).

64 on idle? I used to get like 50 on idle before. So it's a definite increase.

I believe the defects are related to IC packaging issues that come up at prolonged high temperatures. The reason that your gpu is that hot has nothing to do with the defects, but rather just poor cooling.

I'm running an ATI system and though I don't know the temperature, I get the same problem of frame skipping after playing crysis for too long. Just simply gets too hot. There is a bios update you can get from dell that helps the fan kick in sooner. You can also get a cooling pad.

BIOS Update doesn't help. Still goes to those temps and then game crashes :/

I bet CoD4 wouldn't be able to run on this for more than 5 mins...

TF2 runs for a good 30 mins, and isn't as intensive

I've been able to play COD4 for hours on the same system as yours and it seems fine. I didn't do anything to the BIOS still have revision A00 and with default fan control. I just recently started monitoring my GPU temps and I get the same idle temps as you.

Today, no problems as of yet. I haven't really stressed it today.

I'll stress test it probably tomorrow since I'm gone for the rest of the dayd

This isn't the nvidia GPU problem - it's not concerned with overheating it's thermal cycles. If you're GPU is over heating it's because the cooling system is failing to remove the heat.
