Hello, I have a vostro 1500 with the specs that are in my sig. I am considering upgrading the CPU and the Graphics card soon. For the CPU, what is the fastest one I can get that will work on the 1500s? And price? What kind of trade offs would I be looking at as far as battery consumption and heat?

Next is the Graphics card, I would like to get a 256 MB 8600 GT and put it in my 1500. Where can i purchase this card that is designed to Dell's Specs? Price?

    Thanks!

Well, you can get a 2.2GHz T7500 or 2.4GHz T7700. I would say it is not worth the marginal power increase, since you probably are not pushing the processor to 100% usage are you?

But you cannot upgrade the graphics card as far as I know. If you could buy and upgrade, you'd have to find the part from Dell or a Dell-pulled eBay part. Those are Dell only varieties of those GPUs.

You could upgrade the graphics card if you already have a discrete 8400 GS but not if you have the intergrated Intel GPU as it's a different motherboard.
