    Hi,

Looking for some advice on the graphics card to buy in my new m6400 :)

I am a developer mainly, but like to play a game now and then.

Is the NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M 512MB going to cut it for everything out at the moment?

Or should i really spend the extra and get the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M 1GB?

Thoughts???? I've searched for benchamrks but cannot find anything!

    Thanks in advance!

Lucky! The Precision M6400 is awesome! I've actually been drooling over the 15.4" Precision M4400 for a while now!

Here's what I know about the nVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M and 3700M-

The 2700M is almost identical in specification to the nVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS. For reference, the 9700M GTS has a 3DMark06 score of 7,779.

The 3700M is based on the nVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX, but the 3700M has more shaders (128 vs. 112) and a faster core speed (550MHz vs. 500MHz). As a result, the 3700M outperforms the 9800M GTX by a slight margin. The 3700M has a 3DMark06 score of 10,430 and the 9800M GTX was 10,045- both insanely HIGH scores!

My advice would be to save your $399...the standard 512mb nVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M has plenty of power to spare!

Have you decided on which CPU to get? I'm surprised that the base CPU is only the 2.26GHz P8400. The M6400 is their flagship.....it should have the 2.53 T9400 at the least. Beyond that, the options are the 2.8GHz T9600, 3.06GHz X9100 and 2.53GHz QX9300 (QX is one of the very few quad-core mobile processors available).

    Thanks for your great reply!

I am pretty sure i'll get the T9600 2.8ghz, this is another part i have been questioning, i want the QX9300 but cannot justify the price on it.....

So i am leaning towards the Quadro FX 2700M 512MB with the T9600 2.8ghz.

Thanks again, going to order tommorow if i finally decide which parts!

Steve, if you're ordering before the 5th, don't forget to grab a 25-30% off coupon off eBay or one of these forums. It will save you over a grand.
