Ok I have both of these machines with dedicated GPU's, i7's, DDR3 1600.

The GPU in the M4500 is QuadroFX 880M and the GPU in the E6520 is an NVS 4200M.

Which GPU is the more powerful GPU in terms of gaming performance and general media? I don't do CAD or anything other than some light photoshop work.

    Thanks.

4200m is better based on future marks, none are good for gaming though :D If it's worst that 2000m it's bad. :D

The one chart I looked at shows the 4200 being 14% slower, but the guy above this post says it's slightly faster. Anyone else have any info on this?

I'm just trying to figure out which machine would be better for me as I like them both.

They both have 16GB of RAM, Nvidia GPU's and quad core i7's.
Both have the low end 1366x768 LCD and 500GB HD's.
Having the number pad on the E6520 is useful, but the M4500 has better sound.
The E6520 has a backlit keyboard, I could add one to my M4500.
The M4500 supports MSATA, the E6520 does not.
They both have WWAN cards and antenna's.

I like the looks of both, so no matter what machine I choose for the primary computer I should be happy.

Hell, I'd still be using my E6500 if it supported iSeries CPU's, but the Core2DUO while a fine chip - is just too slow for my needs. I LOVE it's 16:10 LCD however.

So if all the specs are roughly the same, which machine would you go with and why? I get tired of switching laptops every few weeks while I try to make up my mind about this. Thanks!

The msata gives you more flexibility IMO.

id say ion the top of m head the nvs 4200m is better. ive owned the quadro fx 770m and that's based off the 9600m gt. the 880m was the next model up so one generation above that. tho good for what it is. the nvs 4200m is newer. based on the nvidia 4 series or 5 series. I owned the 5400m and that is essentially the same card as a 550m or 630/635m. I think the nvs 4200m is about on par with 520m on the top on my head. even if the quadro is more powerful. the 4200m has the recent card advantage which helps on newer games. but on older games the quadro wins but there not much It on the games on notebook check and some of them was benchmarked on stock drivers which is a big difference had they did it with newer drivers so is a bit inconclusive.

like my 8690m in my e6440 it got 3d mark 11 1700 stock like the reviewed score but driver update got it 1944 above the nvida 740m scores they got. so that puts it from below 730m to above a 740m

Well minus the difference in the GPU and the mSATA slot on the M4500, they are pretty similar machines.

Since the E6250 is still under warranty, and I have my software all set up just the way I like it - I will keep this for my primary computer and sell off my other Dell's. Now I just need to find a worthy upgrade to my D630.
