    Greetings:

For those of you that are experiencing this problem, it is definitely a software issue. I have done a lot of research, installed many different drivers (chipset, touchpad, BIOS, etc.), and have pretty much been pulling my hair out over it.

Finally, on a whim, I checked with Dell Live Chat late yesterday afternoon (I have been in contact with them many times before regarding this issue, to no avail) and got lucky. After the rep had me uninstall/reinstall different drivers, which did not work, he asked if he could have remote access to my machine. I granted it and within a few minutes, he solved the issue. His fix was a registry edit. Unfortunately, since in my mind the only fix was going to be a new driver from Alps, I did not play close attention to the changes he made. I believe the entries changed are located at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Alps" and "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Alps". You need to look for an entry that reads something like "Cursor Type" (it was located near the top 1/3 of the entry) and you need to change it from whatever it is currently set at (something like 1715 or 1517, I don't really remember) to zero (0). Reboot and viola...animated cursors are back.

I hope this helps. One note of caution...as always...whenever you are fiddling around with the registry, exercise EXTREME caution. If you are unsure of the less than EXACT description of the fix I have provided, contact Dell Tech Support and have them either lay it out for you or let them fix it remotely. Cheers!!!

I tried it, and I'll post back in a bit to see if it fixed it.

    Thanks.

Ok...my earlier post was from work and I was without my laptop, therefore, I was unable to give the exact information. I am posting from the laptop now and can verify the correct entries are "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Alps/Apoint/CursorChangeType" and "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Alps/Apoint_Default/CursorChangeType". Sorry for any confusion. I hope this worked for you SpeedyMods!!

This is great!, I used the E-Series drivers on my D630 to see what I was missing (not much, couldn't get used to circular scrolling :p ) and the lack of animation was slightly irritating.

    Awesome it works!
It doesn't show the cursor when you scroll but who cares, as long as it works.

    Thank you very much!

No problem. I just downloaded the latest touchpad driver. Animated cursors stop animating again :realmad:. Fortunately, the fix still works for this driver.

This also works under Windows 7 Beta with the latest driver. You still lose your scroll cursor.
