    Hi guys,

    i'm just installing a clean version of vista x64.

    I guess I now know what causes all that hickup annoying sound problem. ;-)

    All went fine till that thingy called "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" got installed. After every step of installing the dell drivers I checked the system. Nothing fancy. Startup sound was fine, no mouse lagging, process "system" was max. about 2% in taskmanager.
    As soon "the matrix" was installed, all went to already known behaviour, like it was with the preinstalled vista. Everytime after startup the process "system" was demanding till up to 15% of cpu - combined with sound problems and mouse lagging. After about half an hour the process went down to 0-2% and everything was fine again.

    So here's the question. For what exactly do I need that Intel Matrix Storage Manager? Can I just ignore installing it and live without that problem?

    Please give me a hint...

    Hah, now it works like it should.

    I loaded the latest Matrix Manager directly from Intel. Works like a charm. Now I can use the "special functions" - on the other hand soundcard and mouse work without any problems. ;-)

    Congrats on good detective work. I'll remember this post if I run into the same problem.

    @Pirx:
    So, do you have any problems with your covet? If so, could you solve them after installing the latest matrix manager?

    This is strange. I seem to remember reading that the Intel Matrix Manager from Dell FIXED the sound issues.

    Maybe I will try uninstalling and try out the one on Intel site.

    Are you using the Default Vista HD audio driver or IDT?
