Refurbs can have minor cosmetic imperfections.

You can return the laptop if you are not happy, but I think it has nice specs :D

    Yes, minor imperfections are normal.

I think the smudges can be wiped off with a wet cloth.

Oh, and congrats on this laptop being problem free :)

You can probably call them and ask for an install disc

How much was it for BTW ?

why does the touchpad suck? not as responsive as you'd like?

try going into the touchpad settings and reducing or disabling the "touchcheck" option...

i tried it, it seems a bit better. i read another thread here that says to NOT get touchpoint drivers from dell, but rather synaptics.

    i bought it for $829, $908 shipped w/ tax.

how do i enable bluetooth? i see the little icon by the blue wifi icon.

so far its problem free ( :D ) although i am not sure about the fan, which is always on low, even though some people say its usually off. ill definitely call dell tomorrow about the disc, not really a big deal.

    thanks again guys!

really? i hanet seen that....i dint even know it was a synaptics touchpad.

is the one on the m4400 a synaptics one too? what additional features do you get with the synaptics drivers, or is it just to improve sensitivity?

that guy who started that thread has a D series (predecessor of the E series that you have).....if im not mistaken the E series and the latest precisions have an ALPS touchpad, not a synaptics one!!

two different suppliers, different drivers IIRC...

i think that the fan is NOT making noise (im pretty sure the blades were still). i think its the 7200 rpm HDD working. is that possible?

My E6400 has an Alps touchpad. Get the latest drivers from Dell then start exploring the options.

My fan is usually off. Install the latest BIOS (A12). And evict the Symantec AV, which is a resource hog. If those two don't turn the fan off then see what is keeping the CPU busy.

Also download and install all the latest versions of the various Dell drivers except for the Dell Connection Manager and Security Manager, which you probably don't need.
