Hi there - Just had to do a complete reformat, which has all gone smooth, and have just realised I have no drivers CD, as dell didn't include one, due to mine shipping with windows xp.

Obviously I have headed straight to the dell website, entered my service tag, and changed the drop down boxes to windows XP, and English UK, but it doesnt make clear which drivers are specific for my system, and I don't want to start installing any old driver.

There seems to be various reccomended drivers, which would conflict.

I am sure it may seem to clear to people who have experience of manually downloading drivers, but havent done this before. and need the system up & running asap.

If anyone owns a dell vostro 1500, and could advise me which drivers/applications and ultilities I need, for windows XP (UK) then that would be fantastic.

Also what order should I install?

This might sound sarcastic, but download the drivers specific for your hardware.

We have no idea how your machine is configured?

If you pull up one of the clean install threads, there are detailed instructions pertaining to the order in which you need to install them.

    Look here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=157838

Good info to answer your questions! I will basically work the same for XP.

No Jak it doesnt sound sarcastic, more I shouldn't have posted so naive there, as of course I understand I need drivers for my specific hardware.

Do I just check the windows device manager, and go by that, in terms of the hardware?

The main ones I need, are nvidia, sound drivers, wi-fi, and I can see some drivers for the cd/dvd, and various other drivers for the hard drive.

Will check that thread out now - thanks

You must know what parts are inside of your laptop so you know which ones to download. After you enter your service tag, is there a way to view information on what parts are in your machine? If so, go by that list and download the drivers that match the brand and model of the parts.
    Good luck.

Hey Jak - regarding the slipstream of sata drivers, as I have just installed windows xp, Can I install the SATA Drivers after a fresh install, or do I have to slipstream them and re-install again?

And thank god I found that thread, as you suggested, certaintly made it all appear easier to understand the process.

Jak - ignore my last question, just been searching on google and found it may be possible, but I am going to go with a clean install as per that thread.

Just an update, I used NLite to slipstream SP3 & all drivers, and done a fresh install, so pleased I had to reformat as I now have just one disc, rather then having to go through the hassle of updating windows & drivers after installing windows.
