    I usually get a second battery after acquiring a laptop. I run mine mostly unplugged. My current unit is a Latitude E6320. Previously I was using an Elitebook 2530P, them batts last two years without any problem with minimal deterioration. Still cannot tell about Dells, will know after more than a year I guess

    am waiting for Dell to send me a media bay batt for more hours of untethered computing.......:)

    The problem is some laptops like Dell Precision M4600/4700 lose stability when you put them on a desk with the battery unplugged. I've noticed that in these models the standard 60Whr baterry wears off pretty fast. My laptop is 1 year and 4 months old but Hwmonitor shows almost 50% wear level. My old M4400's battery didn't degrade so fast.
