My M6400 has just arrived! Yay - and am currently installing a fresh vista on it.

However, when it came to installing the E-Port plus I have some problems - because the docking station has DVI-D ports on it, and I have VGA connectors.

Can someone point me in the direction of something that will allow me to connect my VGA monitor to one of the DVI sockets?

DVI-D is all digital connection. To conver to analog (VGA) you'd need DVI-I ports.
Since the e/port plus has one VGA port I'm assuming you want to connect more then one screen? Try hooking it up to the port on the side of the laptop - not as convenient as at the back but might work.

Dell also has a DisplayPort to VGA adapter:

But the description isn't clear weather is for displayport (system) to vga (monitor) or the other way around - at least for me.

Thanks for that. I tried it, and the 2 vga ports are simply mirrors of each other.
And the Dell Display Port adapter is VGA port => HDMI monitor.

    Ah well.

    I've ordered a 26" DVI capable monitor - that'll fix the problem. :)
