    I have disabled pretty much everything in the startup list from msconfig.exe but now num lock does not work anymore and when I change the volume or brigthness the OSD does not appear. Solution

    Well that's easy... put it back the way it was! :)

    The OSD on my E6400 requires the DCP helper app loaded in the Startup folder.

    Found it, it's called dell controlpoint manager in msconfig.exe
