Chemware - That's good, I hope to be able to say the same some day. I called Dell on Friday wondering what the usual pre-production time is, and was told that parts are out of stock, no specific parts, ETA unknown. They said they will email me when they have more info. If I had 1-2K$ unspent and unbudgeted, I'd certainly get an M4800 with the specs I want from eBay, and just sell the replacement one when it gets around to arriving.

I've never been more happy to still have this E6530 available. It's a champ. Really galls me to have my E6540 holding down a desk still, though. Poor thing is completely useless.

Stuck in a bit of a rut with regards to my case, apparently 'there have been no reports of overheating E6540s' and that 'it's not really a big deal as there are lots of machines with thermal issues as well'. :(

I went ahead and filed my BBB case yesterday and just got my call. Of course they want to send another e6540. I requested another model, they noted that and will email me with what they plan to send in a couple of days. I was told the same thing scrik, no known issues with that model.

Got my M4800 today... like the machine, but do not like that QHD screen I must admit. I'm going to be pretty torn on keeping that or going after the 1080p model.

I've gone from Pre-Production, to In Production, and now....

This Order Number was changed or cancelled. Please try searching by Customer Number and verify if a new Order Number was created for your order.

How is Dell so awesome and so horrible, in equal measure, at alternate times? My E6530 is one of the best laptops I've ever owned, my E6540 one of the worst. Now they can't manage to ship a laptop to me without cancelling the order? I'm deeply confused.

Apparently I was missing a smartcard subassembly on my initial order, so they cancelled my order and put in a new one, with the smartcard assembly and McAfee shovelware added. I'm back to the end of the line, expected ship date next week sometime.

At this point, ordering the exact same machine via retail versus going through Dell Support has cost me almost two weeks, and it'll probably be three before I have it!

Veekay - Dell wouldn't let me change to the QHD panel, not even when I offered to pay. Mine is coming with the 1080p panel, and I'd be happy to talk about a swap. You interested at all? We should compare specs, if you're game.

Well, the M4800 I bought turned out to be stolen - just how my luck is working lately. Still no response back from the last dell call about a replacement machine.

Are you serious? You can't catch a break! Maybe you should just give up on notebooks for a while lol...

It's funny how Dell doesn't even really care - they just won't support the machine, but none of the people I spoke with even asked anything more after finding out it was stolen.

How's the XPS 15 going? I'm still surprised you got a model swap in the first place! :)
