    Hi all,

I got my E6520 yesterday, so far it has BSOD twice, locked up 5 times and failed to wake out of sleep mode once

The dell driver updater takes ages to d/l the drivers and fails to install all but one of the 9 available updates, though manually downloading and installing works, but the dell driver updater fails to recognise the updates have been installed

My laptop was from the outlet, it came with no manuals or disks, it has 8gb ram and came with 32bit windows for some reason

I want to reinstall windows (64bit this time), hopefully this will make all the instability go away,

can I use a generic windows 7 disc? or do I need one from dell with specific drivers preloaded?

how much do dell charge for install media if it isn't part of the main order?

    Thanks

The Dell Driver Updater works horribly, as you found out. I think Dell let that out of the door way too soon. The best use for it is to find out what drivers you need, then download them manually.

You should be able to download an official Windows 7 ISO, then either burn it to a DVD or make a bootable USB. When installing, use the key from the sticker on the bottom of your machine:

Download Windows 7 ISO - Official Direct Download Links

I don't know if Dell sells or provides an installation disc with the drivers already on it, but whatever you'd get from them would be outdated anyway so it's probably easier to install the default Windows 7 and download the drivers yourself. Make sure you have the network drivers on-hand first, though, before you wipe everything out since an OEM Windows 7 installation does not have the E6520's network drivers in it.

Supposedly Dell does sell these disks if you call them AFAIK, but Outlet might be different.

Will want to look at the "Dell Business Client Re-Image “How-To” Guide (for)
Latitude E-Family & Mobile Precision" for help with install order and such (Dell - Support.

Would recommend going to the Dell support site, entering the service tag and pulling down all the files that are there.

I am looking at getting an E6520 and have a few questions.

I'm not sure that I need discrete graphics, but it actually comes to £4 less to have it - I assume that, with switchable graphics, there is no reason to get it without the graphics card.

The E5520 comes with a seemingly identical specification, other than the graphics card, for £100 less - what are the differences?

I believe the Dell SSDs are rebadged models from other manufacturers, any guesses what SSD I would actually be getting? I am in England, if it matters.

Are there any UK coupons for the Latitude?

    Thanks

Yes, you should never buy the E5520 or E6520 with the 1366x768 screen. Aside from being a terrible quality display, the resolution is too low for a 15.6" laptop that costs this much. If you don't go for FHD 1920x1080, go for HD+ 1600x900 at the very minimum. Resolution makes the most difference out of anything.

Hi guys, I'm about to get my E6520 in a couple of days and I ordered it with a single 1x4GB memory module. I have a second 4GB memory module and was wondering if it's easy to install this. Do I just remove the bottom cover and pop it into the open slot? The pics I see in the online E6520 Service Manual are pretty hard to see if there are two memory slots that are accessible after the bottom cover is removed. Thanks!

My Dell does not want to connect to internet after it comes out of standby. I have to troubleshoot and reboot the adapter. I downloaded just the 6250 driver (didn't install the intel utility).

Anyone know the reason? Seems to have worked fine I think when I had the 6300 drivers....
