Lately my palm rest, mainly the touchpad is very warm and wondering if this is related to the RAM overheating, is there any other owner experiencing the same issue?
Is there a way to check the RAM temp and if so what should it be under light usage?
Otherwise the laptop is still very good.

Get speedfan from Alfredo Comparetti: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Works well, although it can't actually control fan speeds, as much as I've wanted it too... I've posted on his forums and even donated, but it seems he can't get speedfan to take control - the Dell BIOS has somehow locked him out of that ability.

I take it back somewhat in regards to the E6540. Take a look at this spec sheet, specifically, at footnote #13 on the bottom of page 2. Apparently the E6540 does support mSATA.

I agree that the SSD is expensive in a sense, but it's the same price I paid for my 256GB Crucial M4 SSD that I purchased at the same time I bought my E6520, about 2.5 years ago. Now we're talking 4x the space, with roughly the same performance, for the same cost. Unless someone's running a high-volume web server, which I seriously doubt, the drive should last for many years.

    Hello,

I cracked the screen (WXGA) on my e6520 and wanted to replace it with a FHD panel. Dell tells me this is no problem and just requires the panel. I got the replacement panel from a third party (dell was out of stock and twice the price) and while the cable does fit into the new panel, only the backlight turns on, there's no picture.

The screen provider tells me I need a "Full HD dual channel cable" that they do not sell. Not having much luck finding any parts at Dell either.

Can anyone confirm whether I actually need a different cable, if the original one physically fits?

I wish I could help, but I have no idea. I'd be curious if you did have to swap out the cable. Are you going to power that screen by the Intel HD 3000, or do you have the Nvidia NVS discrete card in your e6520?

this laptop has the intel HD, but for my own usage the only difference is a lower WEI index :D

I spec my engineers with the nvidia card

    ANYWAY,

    I got this cable
Dell Latitude E6520 15.6" FHD LCD Ribbon Cable 08PT7

    and the 1080p screen worked!

The correct cable is marked "2ch" but visually looks similar and both cables fit the connectors.

The image of the red one is the new one that worked image (4).jpg image (5).jpeg

hopefully this helps someone else! cheap upgrade, around $150 total

I migrated from hdd to Samsung Pro 256 gb ssd and that went well with use of Paragon's OS to SSD program. But I can't change the bios to run on ASCHI. It runs o.k. on the Raid setting that came OEM. It goes as far as "start windows normally" etc. then cycles back to "start windows normally". Take it out of ASCHI and its fine.
I tried this with changing the values in win 7 regedit list as well. I think Intel has something to prevent me from doing this in their controller. In device manager I don't have an IDE/ATA Sata list of controllers showing at all.
The Samsung magician software knows I don't have ASCHI on and says it will increase performance..
    ???? what to do..

A quick question for those that have been using E6520 awhile. I formatted my hard drive when I reloaded Win7x64 I was trying to load as little as possible back on, but using that old re-image guide doesn't match up step for step. What I wanted to know is the minimum from Dell's Drivers Section that would need to be loaded to get the Broadcom USH w/swipe sensor working?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

this is weird, I posted a reply weeks ago.. listing my drivers..and now it's gone. Odd

Anyway, just a heads up to erblemoof and others why may still b e frustrated with that internal flash SATA port...well, FORGET ABOUT IT. Now WD has just released a *dual* two-drives-in-one with 120GB SSD + 1TB conventional. Read about it here:
    WD Black2

Tempted to get one if they go on sale!
