    Hey guys,
I am not a big gamer, I just play a few games here and there and I am seeing my system slow WAY down when even just doing light gaming. Is anyone else having these issues? I have the NVS 160 and the T9600 and even playing games like Command and Conquer Generals Zero hour which is a game that is several years old, I have to play it at 1024*768 with details turn down to min just to get the game not to spit and get jumpy. Its like it freezes every 2 seconds for a half sec or so.

I have speedfan monitoring temps for CPU and GPU and both are well within normal ranges, infact the fan is not even turning much past 4000 RPM and GPU getting no hotter then 64C at MAX.

Any ideas or experiences would be greatly appreciated. I just feel that the NVS 160 should be able to play a 3 year old game MUCH better then it is.

    Thanks in advance!!!!

I remember Generals being a pretty resource-intensive game. The NVS 160M (according to Wikipedia) is the G98M chip which is 9300M-GS based. So it is a pretty weak card anyway. If its not a driver issue, I would say that this is typical for this graphics chip.

yea, you can expect to get similar performance to what the geforce go 7400 got..maybe a bit better...

but it does sound like a driver issue

I agree 100%. If I would have known how sucky this NVS is I would have never bought this machine.

Don't forget that the NVS 160M is optimised for CAD / OpenGL performance.

You may be able to swap the driver to one with better gaming performance.

Has anyone figured out how to do that on the E series yet? I heard that in the past you could change the latitude drivers for Geforce drivers, but I did not think you could use the laptoptogo.com drivers on the E series yet? If anyone knows how I would greatly appreciate any direction.

    Thanks!

Just a quick question, what are the normal temps for this chip?

    IDLE:
    FULL LOAD:

I'm researching the normal specifications as mine is running way too hot i think and will be replacing the thermal tape with actual AS5 like i have done for the CPU

My IDDLE temp. are 44 -52 C. If the temp is 52 C fan goes on, and cool it to 44 C, then the fan goes off...
Load temp. are between 60-70 C... According to application..

Yeah i have been looking around and they are typical numbers of this chip my chip is hitting 90 degrees at load after the technician removed the heat sink to repair the palm rest. i suspect the thermal tape they use on the gpu is only good for one application if separated from the chip die it may lose some thermal conductivity my 20oC more than "normal" would indicate as much. i will report back with my findings after I work out how to remove the tape in one piece so i can reapply it if all goes south and it needs a warranty call.

You can still use the latest drivers from Laptopvideo2go.com, just be sure to use their customized .inf files when you install the drivers. I've installed 185.20 and my 160M runs much faster. But then, I've always overclocked.
